SGMP announces new national headquarters strategy

The SGMP national leadership team announces to all members that we are transitioning from a brick-and-mortar headquarters facility to a virtual office environment. This move will be effective from April 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. Our staff team's email addresses and phone numbers remain the same, but make note of SGMP's new mailing address: P.O. Box 321025, Alexandria, Virginia, 22320.

Solar-powered venues are hot commodities

Last October, MGM Resorts International celebrated the completion of its rooftop solar array, covering 20 acres atop the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The 6.4-megawatt addition is expected to offset the property's sizable peak electricity demands by as much as 20 percent — enough to power 1,000 U.S. homes annually. It represents a growing trend at hotels and meeting-friendly properties across the globe.

Study finds planners expect dramatic increase in engagement with mobile event apps

The Event Marketing Institute, an association providing content and research to a membership of Fortune 1,000 brands and top event agencies, partnered with Cvent, Inc. to develop and conduct a unique study to quantify how event planners are currently leveraging mobile app technology and services. The results of a survey conducted with leading event and meeting planners in November and December 2014 predict a dramatic increase in how event attendees will value and engage with mobile event apps over the next two years.

2 years after Marriott takeover, Gaylord National continues to thrive
