Google took a step in that direction recently with the acquisition of Titan Aerospace, a maker of solar-powered drones that can help boost Internet access to remote areas.

U of Victoria's under-sea infrastructure grows with cloud funding from IBM

IBM will work with Ocean Networks Canada at the University of Victoria on a three-year project to equip B.C. with a monitoring and prediction system to respond to off-shore events. The Smart Oceans BC program will use marine sensors and data analysis to enhance environmental stewardship, and public and marine safety along the west coast.

Google Analytics now lets you track web and app data in a single view

Here is a small but important update to Google Analytics: Developers can now create a single reporting view that includes both web and app data. Google says this will help businesses that have multiple digital touch points for their users (web, mobile apps, other devices) to better understand them. Until recently, Analytics users had to choose between an app view or web view when they created views. Both options provided a slightly different experience.

Free public Wi-Fi closer to coming to Vancouver's parks and beaches

It looks like when you are lounging at the beach or taking a stroll in the park, it will soon be even easier to upload a photo to Facebook or send a tweet. The Vancouver Park Board has voted to work with the city to develop a strategy to implement free public Wi-Fi in all of Vancouver's beaches, parks and other spaces under the jurisdiction of the board.
