CALM Act, FCC fees and more
Broadcast Law Blog
The FCC announced a change in the CALM Act, regulating loud commercials. One of the FCC's decisions in implementing the Act was that stations could comply with its provisions by meeting the standards set out in A/85 Recommended Practice, a standard adopted by the Advanced Television Standards Committee. The FCC noted that such standards would be revised from time to time. That standard has now been revised by ATSC to remain in compliance with this safe harbor for compliance under the CALM Act and are expected to comply with the revised standard by June 4, 2015.

What info is important and what's not
Mark Margulies, BENMARadio
Mark Margulies writes: "Recently on LinkedIn, one of my groups suggested a discussion topic that cited an article in Radio Ink, saying radio station were starting to invest more in their creative, to improve the quality of the spots. I, as you would imagine, wholeheartedly approve of this idea. But I want to take it further because the burden of quality creative doesn't just fall on the production directors and writers."

Wireless microphone users face worsening spectrum shortage
    CommLawBlog
Wireless microphone users are fighting for spectrum. Here's why — and what the FCC is doing about it. Until recently, few people gave these devices much thought — not even the FCC. At least not until the 2009 digital TV transition that transferred 108 MHz of TV spectrum to other uses, which cut the numbers of empty channels and left microphone users scrambling for spectrum — especially in microphone-dense areas.
