Calhoun County delay tactics show sunshine laws need more teeth
Victoria Advocate
Calhoun County's fight to keep public information away from the public is revealing in many ways. First, we're reminded yet again that government needs to be watched. These county commissioners and the Calhoun County district attorney aren't bad people by nature, but many public officials have an alarming tendency to forget they serve the public. Next, the Texas Open Meetings Act and Public Information Act need to be zealously guarded and enhanced. Branding Weather Hardware
Graeme Newell, 602 Communications
At most stations, a typical weather brand will have five or six product names within it. For example, Supperdopper 5000 HD will have zooming street-level mapping, futuretrack radar, HD storm simulator and the exclusive seven-day weekview. Most stations have a lot of these weather "sub-brands." They are peripheral messages that purportedly feed into the main central brand. (TAB Members Only)

TV station 'spot check' for CALM Act compliance due Dec. 13
Broadcast Law Blog
While we were sidetracked by the government shutdown in posting reminders about regulatory deadlines for broadcasters during the last two months, it's about time to put that behind us and to resume our monthly practice. While everyone may be looking forward to the holidays, they need to remember that December does bring a number of regulatory obligations for broadcasters across the country.

Why 4K? The latest TV tech flop?
By Mitch Weinraub
As the "soft" announcements continue to roll out that a number of players (DirecTV, Netflix, etc.) are planning to launch 4K TV services, it probably makes sense to take a step back and ask both why and when? Of course, planning could mean anything from "we've penciled it for 2017" to "we will have a channel launched before the end of the year."
