Domtar completes acquisition of Indas

Domtar Corporation announced the closing of the acquisition of privately-held Laboratorios Indas, following a definitive agreement announced in November. Indas is Spain's largest manufacturer and marketer of branded adult incontinence products, with its IncoPack and Indasec line of products.

Chinese industrial textiles shine in 2013

Manufacturing growth to help propel US expansion

Manufacturing grew in December at the second-fastest pace in more than two years, fueled by a gain in orders that will help propel the U.S. expansion. The Institute for Supply Management's factory index eased to 57 from the prior month's 57.3, which was the highest since April 2011, the Tempe, Ariz.-based group said. Readings above 50 indicate growth.

Domtar plans expansion into adult incontinence market

Pascal Bosse, Domtar's vice president of corporate communications and investor relations, spoke recently at Citi's sixth annual Basic Materials Conference. Among the topics he discussed was Domtar's recent acquisition of Laboratorios Indas and how it fits into the company's strategy of growing its personal care business, which will now represent 23 percent of the company's $5.6 billion in annual sales.

Indian Textile Ministry to promote jute fabrics for rural roads
Innovation in Textiles
The Union Ministry of Textile is planning to promote use of jute geotextiles for construction of rural roads across India. Geotextiles are permeable fabrics used as an agent to strengthen the road foundations and prevent soil erosion along the banks. Jute geotextiles are said to be about 25 percent cheaper than other fabrics. However, this biodegradable material is low on longevity and is best used in rural or arterial roads, which do not attract heavy traffic.
