These tent walls have been digitally printed on TenCate Residential tent cloth, which consists of a blend of polyester fibers and moisture-regulating PVA fibers. This high quality fabric is said to combat condensation and has a special, dirt-resistant finish, which enables the tents to remain standing for many years in all weathers during the camping season from March through October, the company reports.

SDL Atlas debuts updated Moisture Management Tester

Textile testing solutions provider, SDL Atlas said it has launched the second generation of the Moisture Management Tester (MMT), with a new design and which incorporates several improvements. "The open design for the test area allows the use of larger samples and even a portion of a completed garment to be tested and it also makes routine cleaning of the test sensors easier," SDL Atlas said.

Recent composites market survey shows overall positive market outlook

Fiber-reinforced plastics/composites are offering great development potential in a wide range of applications, ranging from automotive industry and construction to aviation and electronics, due to their versatility, according to the trade association Composites Germany. Since 2013, Composites Germany has been gathering indicators on current and future developments in composites, based on a six-monthly member survey conducted by leading composite industry associations AVK, CFK Valley, CCeV and VDMA.

Tencel becomes 1st medically tested fiber

In the home textiles market, skin-sensory properties are essential in bed linens when it comes to the end consumer's buying decision, and textiles that come in contact with the skin should satisfy the highest standards, according to Lenzing. Lenzing's Lyocell fiber Tencel is available in many of these products, and the company's Tencel was the first to be tested by KFT, the Fördergemeinschaft Körperverträgliche Textilien e.V., and can now use the FKT label "MEDICALLY TESTED – TESTED FOR TOXINS."

Fed: Industrial production showed strong growth in 2014

Factory production increased at the fastest rate in four years in 2014, according to the latest monthly numbers from the Federal Reserve. But the manufacturing sector faces challenges from both a turbulent global economy and capacity limitations at home. December estimates from the Fed show factory production increased 0.3 percent in December, capping a healthy 2014 performance — and a particularly strong fourth quarter of the year.

Students develops tool to help composite layup

A Ph.D. student from the University of Bristol has designed and developed a hand-held laminating tool, called a dibber, for use in the layup of advanced composite components. The manual tool could be used by laminators to manufacture composite materials in industries such as aerospace, car and transport. Processing aids and tools play an important part in the layup of composite reinforcements to complex geometries. However, despite being frequently used by many industries no in-depth study of these tools or how they are developed and applied has ever been carried out.
