The diaper paradox
Nonwovens Industry    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Carlos Richer writes, "Of all the diapers sold in the world, it is usually agreed that adult diapers sold to the institutional sector are probably the very worst you can find. I have seen diapers made in underdeveloped areas of the world, like India, China or Vietnam, with much better performance than the Institutional diapers sold in the U.S.; it is hard to believe, but a fact.In some cases Institutions go as far as suggesting the use of under-beds. Nothing can be more denigrating to an adult user with limited mobility than to force him to use regular under-beds as a treatment to a regular everyday incontinence." More

Close to 75,000 household fires occur in the U.S. every year, causing thousands of deaths, injuries and over $7 billion in property loss, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Kitchen and cookingrelated fires account for 44 percent of these. Many homes have fire extinguishers tucked in a corner or near a wall - "just in case." But in an emergency, can you operate it quickly? And if it's out-of-date, it could be almost inoperable to fight a small house fire. One of the tools used by first responders and firefighters is a fire blanket. The Kovenex Fire Blanket is a nonwoven flameresistant thermal "blanket." More

Introduction to Nonwovens Technology
By Subhash k. Batra, Ph.D. and Behnam Pourdeyhimi, Ph.D.

The processing of nonwovens depends on a range of technologies, some adapted from the textile and paper industries, others developed uniquely for nonwovens production. The present volume provides a systematic step-by-step explanation of virtually all processes that integrate relevant raw materials into finished nonwovens for different end uses. In comprehensive terms, the book explains the connection between the structure of nonwovens and the specialized, as well as still evolving, technologies used to produce them - from simple roll goods to nanoscale webs and fiberwebs.
