Nonwovens Industry    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Once dominated by baby care, the wipes market is maturing and branching out into other applications that offer manufacturers new opportunities for growth. Back in business?
happi    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
For the past several years, U.S. consumers have been tightening their purse strings and cutting back on spending. Especially hard hit have been discretionary items and life's little indulgences. And, while not every homeowner was on the brink of foreclosure, the recession shook up many routines. Dinner and a movie became homemade pizza and a Redbox video and that annual stay at the Atlantis in the Bahamas was downgraded to a week at the lake upstate. More

US manufacturing probably grew at slowest pace in 8 months
Bloomberg    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Manufacturing probably expanded in June at the slowest pace in eight months, indicating the industry may provide less support for the U.S. expansion, economists said before a report recently. The Institute for Supply Management's factory index fell to 52 from 53.5 the prior month, according to the median estimate of 60 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Readings greater than 50 signal growth. Construction spending increased in May for a third month, separate figures may show. More

Sustainability: A new kind of mainstream
Nonwovens Industry    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Sustainability has become the watchword for fast-moving consumer goods and wider society. While climate change naysayers still make the headlines, it would appear there is broad agreement on the significant environmental challenges that global society now faces. The emergence of Life Cycle Analysis as well as the Triple Bottom Line view of sustainability has helped crystallize sustainability's place in mainstream products as well as corporate practice. More

From rags to riches - World of Wipes 2012
Innovation in Textiles    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Many of the benefits of disposable nonwoven wipes in the workplace over laundered and reusable cleaning materials (what are referred to in the U.S. as 'shop towels') have been pretty well demonstrated over the past 30 years. Yet in the USA, there has been a long-running fight to level the playing field for them - to the extent that eight years ago, questions were even asked in Congress about Richard Farmer, the founder of laundered workwear and services supplier Cintas, which employs 30,000 people and had sales of $3.8 billion in 2011. US disposable medical supplies market
Healthcare Global    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. demand for disposable medical supplies is forecast to increase 4.3 percent annually to $46.7 billion in 2016. An expanding volume of patient care activity spurred by aging demographic patterns, a rising incidence of diseases and disorders, and the extension of health insurance coverage by the Affordable Care Act of 2010 will promote growth. Demand for disposable medical supplies will also build upward momentum as hospitals, outpatient facilities and other health care establishments adopt stricter infection prevention safeguards to meet stronger standards. Health care cost containment pressures will remain the key moderating influence on growth in the U.S. disposable medical supplies market. Hospitals and other medical providers will become increasingly price sensitive in purchasing products as public and private health insurance concerns tighten restrictions on fees paid for patient procedures.
