Sales of nonwoven media used in filtration applications will reach $3.7 billion for 2013, according to a new report from BCC Research. This includes nonwoven filter media manufactured by five production routes – airlaid, wetlaid, spunbonding, meltblowing and apertured film extrusion processes – and for several different applications in air, gas and liquid filtration.

Oerlikon adds meltblown systems to nonwoven product line

Oerlikon Neumag has extended its nonwoven product line and now provides meltblown systems as inserts in existing and new outside vendor SXS plants. The first two Oerlikon Neumag meltblown “Plug & Produce-Solutions” were commissioned in a new SXXS line for hygiene and medical nonwovens with a customer on the American market.

Autoneum sells Italian subsidary

Autoneum has sold its subsidiary Autoneum Italy S.p.A. to the German industrial holding company mutares. A corresponding contract was signed on July 22. It was agreed to keep the transaction price confidential. This sale is a strategic step toward adjusting capacity in Europe to business expectations.

Desso and Bonar formalize alliance

ASTM revises standard test method for textiles' flame resistance

The American Society for Testing and Materials International has recently revised the D6413/D6413M Standard Test Method for Flame Resistance of Textiles. This test method determines the vertical flame resistance of a textile in response to a standard ignition source, deriving measurement values for afterflame time, afterglow time and char length.
