The Binders & Additives Committee presents Crosslinking Resin Chemistry for Nonwoven & Paper Applications on Aug. 19 at noon EST hosted by John Jacquin New Business Development Manager at Ineos Melamines. This presentation will focus on the chemistry of thermoset resin crosslinkers used in nonwoven and paper applications. In particular, amino resins, including urea-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde resins, as well as phenol-formaldehyde resins will be discussed. The key attributes of crosslinking the latex resin will be reviewed. The general advantages and disadvantages of the thermoset systems with respect to binding and coating applications will be compared.

Manufacturing expands for 14th straight month
The Associated Press via USA Today
U.S. manufacturing expanded for the 14th straight month in July. The Institute for Supply Management, a trade group of purchasing managers, reports that its manufacturing index rose to 57.1, up from 55.3 in June. Anything above 50 signals that manufacturing is growing. New orders, production and employment at factories rose.

Nearly 40 states to adopt new EPA wiper ruling
NONWOVENS INDUSTRY
The Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association is working with environmental officials in every state promoting the adoption of an Environmental Protection Agency rule on industrial wiping cloths that was nearly 30 years in the making. To date, nine states – Alaska, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia – have all implemented the rule in its entirety. The state of Montana is expected to become the 10th state to adopt the rule during the first week of August. Meanwhile, officials in the vast majority of other states indicate they plan to adopt the rule.

Depend wants you to 'Drop Your Pants' to reduce the stigma of incontinence

The Depend undergarment company has launched a new ad campaign and charity drive called Underwareness (a portmanteau of "underwear" and "awareness"), hoping to reduce the stigma attached to adult incontinence products. People who don't need Depend products are being encouraged to take photos of themselves wearing a Depend garment and post the photos to social media, using the hashtags #DropYourPants and #Underwareness, "to advance the support and education of bladder leakage issues," as the company's "$3 million pledge" says.
