China services to manufacturing suggest slowdown easing

China’s economy is showing signs of stabilizing after slowing for two straight quarters, with official manufacturing and services indexes rising and gains in gauges of business expectations. The non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index rose to 54.1 in July from 53.9, the first acceleration since March, government data showed, following an unexpected gain in a manufacturing PMI.

Unifi, Palmetto Synthetics sign Repreve supply agreement

Greensboro, N.C.-based textured yarn manufacturer Unifi Inc. and Kingstree, S.C.-based Palmetto Synthetics LLC, a manufacturer of polyester, nylon, and other specialty man-made staple fibers, have signed a manufacturing and distribution agreement under which Palmetto Synthetics will purchase Unifi's Repreve chip, produced at Unifi's Repreve Recycling Center in Yadkinville, N.C., and process it into staple fiber to be sold under the Repreve name.

DuPont believes it can replace more than 50 percent of its current plastics portfolio with biobased alternatives within the next 15 years. Speaking to European Bioplastics, Lewis E. Manring, vice-president of technology for DuPont Performance Polymers said that a major campaign is underway at the company to achieve this, not all of which has been publicized.
