Two of the world's largest nonwovens producers will likely merge following an agreement whereby Polymer Group Inc. will acquire Fiberweb. The two parties announced that they reached an agreement and the board of Fiberweb will recommend shareholders approve the cash offer.

Researchers seek new opportunities for cotton wipes

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in New Orleans are working on formulations to help increase cotton's role in the household and industrial cleaning wipes markets. Previous applications containing antimicrobial quats have stuck to the cotton instead of transferring to the hard surface in need of cleaning or disinfecting, but researchers have found that altering formulations can reverse this phenomena.

Tencate to provide geotextiles for drinking water project

The Sustainable Water Fund of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has commissioned Pentair, TenCate and Wavin jointly to install 20 sustainable drinking water systems in South Africa, called GreenSource. The water treatment part of this integrated system will be produced by Pentair, the water buffering and pipe systems will be manufactured by Wavin and the high-grade synthetic turf and geotextiles by TenCate.

N.C. State University advances nanofiber applications
N.C. State University Technician Online
North Carolina State University researchers recently published a study about the production of carbon nanofibers by employing a technique called airbrushing. Generally, airbrushes are used to cover various surfaces with paint. However, according to professor Joseph Tracy, who oversaw the research, airbrushing is a simple way to deposit large areas of catalyst particles.
