Job-hungry India launches manufacturing campaign, invites investors to 'Make in India'

Flanked by some of India's wealthiest businessmen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a campaign to entice investment and promote the country as the world's next cheap labor economy. The "Make in India" campaign, complete with a slick web page and a logo depicting a prowling lion, is as much an advertisement as a promise to streamline bureaucracy and become more investor friendly.

Europe and China must work towards cultivating fiber crops, says a report titled "Markets for fiber crops in EU and China," published by the Wageningen University and Research Center, an agricultural research institute in Netherlands. The report contains an analysis on the opportunities and threats in the international fiber crop market by researchers from Wageningen University Food and Bio-based Research.

US cracks down on companies going overseas

A handful of big companies pursuing overseas mergers to lower their tax bills came under pressure recently after the U.S. unveiled rules to discourage them. The Treasury Department announced new regulations on Sept. 22 aimed at making these so-called inversion deals less lucrative. In a typical deal, an American company buys a foreign firm based in a country with a lower tax rate, then moves its headquarters overseas.

Shima Seiki to show latest innovation at Advanced Textiles

Japanese computerized knitting machine manufacturer Shima Seiki will display its latest technological products to service the technical textile sector at the upcoming Advanced Textiles Expo show in October. PGI adds to European capacity; launches soft products
NONWOVENS INDUSTRY
PGI will increase its European output, bringing its total capacity in the region to above 100,000 metric tons. At a news conference held at EDANA's Outlook conference in Barcelona, Spain, the company said it would significantly increase its spunmelt nonwovens capacity in Tarragona, Spain by 2015 and add to its specialty carded capacity in Terno, Italy.
