Each flexible package holds 35 wipes.

Sonia Reynolds, a designer and researcher, now undertaking a Ph.D. at the Nottingham Trent University, has pioneered a new form of nonwoven material made from yarn. According to the designer, the so-called space cloth has a strong potential for use as a smart textile due to its unique structure with space to encase copper wiring, light emitting diodes (LEDs) and more.

Procter & Gamble's Pampers brand has partnered with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses to design and introduce the new Pampers Preemie Swaddlers Size P-3 diaper. The new Size P-3 is three sizes smaller than Newborn diapers to fit the tiniest and most vulnerable premature babies born in the second trimester and weighing as little as 1 pound (500 grams). Pampers is the first major diaper brand to offer a diaper specifically designed for babies this small.

Innovation in Textiles
George Stylios, a Senior Research Professor at the Heriot-Watt University, together with a research student Meixuan Chen, have conducted a study examining the participants’ emotional reactions to a variety of patterns in order to determine whether they can be manipulated to change our state of mind. As part of the study, researchers designed and produced four smart knitted fabrics from a purpose-made electrochromic composite yarn – psychotextiles – that could toggle between two kinds of patterns on a graduating scale.

Kiara Nirghin, a 16-year-old South African schoolgirl, won the grand prize at Google's Science Fair for developing low-cost, biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAP) made out of orange peels. Nirghin's submission, "Fighting drought with fruit," beat students from around the world for a $50,000 scholarship. Nirghin's innovation was in response to South Africa's 2015 drought - the country's lowest ever rainfall since 1904. Last year, the country only received an average of 403mm if rainfall, just 66 percent of the annual average rainfall, according to her submission.
