New technology hitting wipes market
NONWOVENS INDUSTRY
Arvell, the nonwovens technology now being offered by wipes converting line specialist Teknoweb, is starting to gain traction in the marketplace. Earlier in October, Polish wipes maker Harper Hygienics announced it would start manufacturing wipes using Arvell substrates and executives expect more companies to follow suit.

Fibertex Nonwovens acquires US nonwoven manufacturer

Fibertex Nonwovens, a subsidiary of Schouw & Co. industrial group, has agreed to acquire all shares in Non Woven Solutions, a U.S. nonwovens manufacturer. As part of the transaction worth $25 million, a previously leased property has been acquired. "Acquiring NWS is an important strategic step for us. In recent years, Fibertex Nonwovens has increasingly focused on special-purpose products for the composites, automotive and other industries. NWS is a perfect match for this strategy," explained Jørgen Bech Madsen, CEO of Fibertex Nonwovens.

Indian nonwovens will account for 8 percent of Asian market by 2016

The Indian nonwovens market accounted for 7 percent of the nonwovens market in Asia in 2013. In 2016, India's nonwovens market is expected to account for already an 8 percent share in the Asian nonwovens market, according to the International Nonwoven Fabric Association Asia branch, who believes that the region is influenced by a hot development trend.

SCA says strategy to counter P&G's incontinence push is working

Svenska Cellulosa AB, the world's largest maker of incontinence products, said it's winning the battle to defend its position after Procter & Gamble Co. entered the European market for adult diapers. "So far, from our perspective, our tactic is working," Chief Executive Officer Jan Johansson said after SCA published third-quarter results. "You can never underestimate such a big and good player as Procter. But we do have an extremely strong brand."

Finnish nonwovens producer Ahlstrom reports flat Q3 sales

For the third quarter ending Sept. 30, Finnish nonwovens producer Ahlstrom reported near flat sales, when compared with third quarter ending Sept. 30, 2013. In the three months to Sept. 30, net sales at Ahlstrom stood at 252 million euros against $251.1 million euros in the corresponding months of 2013.
