Cantu named CC Moody's head football coach

Former Corpus Christi Ray and Carroll offensive coordinator Mike Cantu was named head football coach and athletic coordinator at Corpus Christi Moody High School. Cantu spent the past two seasons as the Carroll offensive coordinator. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator at Ray under head coach Roland Gonzalez. More

McQueen leaves Lampasas for Hardin-Simmons

Lampasas football coach Joey McQueen, who took over a winless team and turned it into a playoff qualifier, has been hired as the new wide receivers coach at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. McQueen, 53, told the Badgers he was stepping down after three seasons. He led Lampasas to a 19-14 record and twice took the Badgers to the playoffs. More

Mathis' return to coach football at DeSoto put on hold

The DeSoto ISD school board tabled action on Claude Mathis' return as head football coach until the next school board meeting Feb. 27. Mathis left DeSoto last month to take an assistant coaching job with the University of Houston. Houston announced that Mathis was leaving the Cougars less than a month after he was hired to be their running backs coach. More

It's been a busy week for San Antonio Wagner coach Clifton Ellis, who missed the Thunderbirds' game against San Marcos for the birth of his son, Aiden. He hasn't been sleeping much since, but at least his team is doing its part not to keep him up at night. Wagner's been on a roll, and it continued when Ellis returned to the court for a 63-40 victory over New Braunfels. More

If Sharyland ISD wants to hire a new Sharyland head football coach from out of the Rio Grande Valley, it has an ample list of potential candidates. Non-Valley coaches make up 20 of the 32 applicants vying to replace former coach Fred Sanchez. Sanchez retired from coaching last month after 12 years on the job, leading the Rattlers to 40 wins and two District 30-5A championships over the last four years. More
