Private school bill passed by Senate, goes to House for consideration THSCA Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() S.B. 1214, by Patrick, and H.B. 2322, by Garza, are companion bills relating to allowing participation of private schools in UIL-sponsored activities. S.B. 1214 passed out of the Senate last Friday and is headed to the House of Representatives. It is of extreme importance for all of our coaches to IMMEDIATELY contact their state representative in the House as well as the representatives on the Public Education Committee, the speaker of the House (Joe Straus) and the representatives on the Calendars Committee to voice opposition to S.B. 1214 and H.B. 2322. Muleshoe senior Tyson Turnbow woke up at 5:30 a.m. Monday in Austin and headed to the World of Tennis at Lakeway, where he won his boys singles state quarterfinal against Irving North Hills' Chris Gang, 6-0, 6-3. As soon as the match ended, Turnbow sped over to the Roy Kizer Golf Course and teed off in the Class 2A state golf tournament. He fired a 75 in the first round, putting him in first place. More

After years of flirting with retirement, McAllen ISD athletic director Poppy Rodriguez will step down June 16. Rodriguez called it a difficult decision to end a career the spanned six decades.
