Lake Travis grad keeps his streak, leads South to win San Antonio Express-News Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Andy Erickson has only known success at Lake Travis, playing on three state championship football teams as part of a 46-game winning streak. At the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game, Erickson almost singlehandedly made his personal winning streak 47. He returned two kicks for touchdowns and added a receiving TD in a 36-23 South victory against the North. As if starring on offense and special teams wasn't enough, Erickson also intercepted a pass before an estimated crowd of 9,800 at the Alamodome. More

A year ago, Brady High School's football team had one thing in mind — playing in December. Brady accomplished that, advancing to the Class 2A state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Pilot Point 35-14, ending the Bulldogs’ season at 13-1. Warren High School has hired Jim Lewis as its new boys basketball coach. Lewis was the head coach at Huffman-Hargrave for three seasons and Harmony for one season prior to that. Most recently, he was an assistant at Splendora for the 2008-2009 season and took a year off after that for personal business. Lewis will also coach the secondary in football. Chris Freytag and Shawn Bruns had to leave coaching school early. But there was good news waiting when they returned to Flatonia from San Antonio. Freytag and Bruns have been named co-athletic directors for the Flatonia school district. Freytag will become the head football coach and Bruns will continue as head baseball coach. The moves were approved by the Flatonia school district board of trustees last week. They followed the resignation of athletic director and head football coach Rodney Dowell in late June. Tomball has made positive strides in each of coach Tommy Kaiser's three seasons with the Cougars, but to reach the playoffs, he knows there has to be more. Tomball's last playoff berth came in 2003 when the Cougars finished with a 6-5 mark after falling to Klein Forest 24-14 in the first round under former longtime coach Pat Patterson. That 6-5 finish is the Cougars' only winning season over the past decade that also had 5-5 non-playoff campaigns in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. More |
