Bastrop's Swagger is Back
from the Austin American-Statesman
The star of the show was supposed to be the venue, the 8,000-seat stadium with all the amenities to make Bastrop a major player in Central Texas football. Soon after the near-sellout crowd caught a glimpse of Bastrop Memorial Stadium—cool jumbotron, by the way—attention turned to the field. Not only do the Bears have a quality place to call home, they have uncovered a talented football team in the process. Bastrop improved to 4-0 on Friday night by whipping Pflugerville 41-26 in a game that was a shocking 31-0 at halftime. More    E-mail article

Rangers Flying Under District Radar
from the Houston Chronicle
And the first team in District 23-5A to hit 4-0 on the season is … Clements? Yes, that's right, with most of the preseason talk centered elsewhere, it was the Rangers stealing the spotlight last week, knocking off the previously undefeated Travis Tigers 30-27 in a thriller. More    E-mail article

McKinney Boyd QB’s Play Speaks Loudly
from The Dallas Morning News HS Game Time
As quiet a person as McKinney Boyd quarterback Jonovan Griffin is, quiet games don't seem to be in his repertoire. Take Griffin's last game – his best-ever statistically – against McKinney. He accounted for 634 of Boyd's 786 total offensive yards, rushed for four touchdowns and threw for four more in a 78-51 win. Ask Griffin about it, however, and mum's the word. More    E-mail article

Off-week Comes at Good Time for Frenship Squad
from Lone Star Varsity
The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for the Frenship football program. It’s not like the Tigers have had a bad non-conference slate, in fact a normal one in going 4-1 losing only to Abilene Wylie, ranked in the top five in Class 3A. But as the Tigers come out of the inflatable tunnel each week they seem to be followed by a M.A.S.H unit due to all the injuries that have been suffered. That’s why having this week off isn’t so bad to head coach Brad Davis. More    E-mail article

Birdville QB Adds Seven TD Passes against Azle
from the Fort Worth Star-Tribune
Josh Dorman says he doesn’t think about his numbers — at least not during the game. What the Birdville quarterback apparently didn’t know was that he passed for 553 yards and seven touchdowns in a 63-28 victory against Azle in a District 6-4A opener Friday night. The teams combined for 969 yards of offense and 41 first downs. The Hawks scored on eight of their 10 possessions and did not attempt a punt. More    E-mail article

Preparation Important to Bridge City's Success
from the Beaumont Enterprise
Heavy rain hit the concrete pavement alongside the Bridge City gymnasium. Many students scrambled to find shelter while they waited for their rides. But for the Bridge City volleyball players, the bad weather didn't seem to spoil their afternoon. You see, the girls were safe and sound inside the gym. The heavy downpour may have slowed the progress of football practice, but the volleyball team didn't seem to miss a beat. The Bridge City girls were hard at work in the midst of an afternoon practice. More    E-mail article
