Gun control: Founding Fathers vs. today's lawmakers
Real Clear Politics
Within hours of the Jan. 8, 2011, mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz., that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the local sheriff blamed the state's lenient gun laws. "I have never been a proponent of letting everybody in the state carry weapons under any circumstances that they want — and that's almost where we are," complained Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. "I think we're the Tombstone of the United States of America." Dupnik would prove to have a knack for intemperate remarks, and this one was historically inaccurate, but the frustration of law enforcement officials in the urban areas of his state was genuine.

Texas teen fears ban on military-style assault weapons
VideoBrief A Texas teen hopes congress doesn't ban military assault weapons. Madison Butler got her first gun at the age of four. She practices at the Central Texas Rifle and Pistol Club in China Spring. "Once she got to the expert level, a man saw her shooting and said you should get her into shooting the AR-15s," Sara Leatherman, Butler's mother, said. Butler began shooting with an AR-15 and soon started competing in competitive shooting. She is one of the youngest to compete in the high power rifle division.

US gun owners outnumbered hunters by 5-to-1 in 2011
CNS News
In 2011, gun owners in the United States outnumbered hunters by 5-to-1. There were 13.7 million hunters in the United States over age 16 — 12.7 million of whom used rifles, shotguns or handguns for hunting, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That means hunters constituted only 15.9 to 18.1 percent of the estimated 70-80 million gun owners in the U.S. in 2011 — the latest year for which statistics are available.

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Moving with a carbine
American Rifleman
Movement should be a critical part of any defensive plan. However, some serious thought should go into the techniques used when moving and shooting a carbine or, in fact, any defensive firearm. The problem is that we train on a square range, which is usually nice and flat and devoid of any obstacles that can trip us up. In the real world, we have to deal with uneven ground surfaces that can be strewn with all sorts of objects that can get in our way. For this reason, some thought should be devoted as to how we can move effectively and quickly.

10 rounds are good — Unless your attacker has 15
Ammo Land
As gun grabbers continue to push for a ban on magazines that hold more 10 rounds, one question begs to be answered ... what are law abiding citizens with 10 rounds to do when attacked by criminals with 15, 20 or even 30 rounds? Are they to lie down and say uncle? Are they to hand over their wallet and their car keys and beg for mercy? This is not hyperbole. President Barack Obama traveled to Minneapolis to say magazines that hold more than 10 rounds ought to be banned. He stood in front of row after row of police officers and described magazines that hold more than 10 rounds as "weapons of war."

Lawmakers need to attack cause of gun violence
Your Houston News
Glen Dodson, a contributing writer, says: "There has been a lot written in the recent weeks regarding guns and gun laws, etc. I decided it was my turn to put in my two cents worth. When I was 10 years old, my dad began teaching me how to shoot a .22 caliber rifle. At age 12, he gave me a .410 gauge shotgun for Christmas. We were taught to respect guns. We were taught to respect life. We were taught to only shoot animals or birds for food and not for fun. We were taught to respect people and people's property. We were taught to respect the family name and not do anything to dishonor it. Most of all we were taught to respect our parents and respect and fear God."

Ammo Land
"Women want to learn how to shoot." According to NRA's Women on Target program, participation in the female focused instructional shooting clinics increased by 26 percent in the 2012. National Women on Target Program Coordinator Diane Danielson believes she knows the reason why. "It's all thanks to word of mouth and the nature of the program," said Danielson. "We're strictly for women, primarily the first time shooter. It's about getting out to shoot and getting over the fear of firing those first shots."
