The VA Pension Benefit Experts

Four month average turn around with the VA’s Pension with Aid and Attendance

Chairman makes case for support to veterans
U.S. Department of Defense
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff praised the members of the Dallas-based America's Future organization for their efforts on behalf of veterans, but said such efforts must continue. Groups like America's Future will help define how the nation looks at its veterans, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey said during a speech to the group in Dallas. "What image will this generation's veterans have?" the chairman asked. "The veterans themselves have less to say about who they are and how they will be remembered than you do, frankly."

Homeless veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan: Comparisons with previous cohorts
Journalist's Resource
Homeless veterans account for between 20-25 percent of the overall homeless population. The Veteran's Administration counted nearly 67,500 homeless veterans on a single night in January 2011; more than twice that number spent at least one night in an emergency shelter within the past year. The National Alliance to End Homelessness reported in 2012 that, while the overall number of homeless veterans declined between 2009 and 2011, the number of female veterans without homes more than doubled.

Putting veterans on a path to careers
Government Executive
Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., is worried about the unemployment rate for veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. At a recent Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee hearing, he noted former service members face major hurdles in translating their military service into meaningful civilian careers. Kaine, who has a son in the Marine Corps and has heard hardship stories from veterans while on the campaign trail, successfully pushed major sections of his proposed Troop Talent bill into this year's National Defense Authorization Act.

Skills training investment is a win for America
The Hill
What's wrong with this picture? Many of the California counties served by Pacific Gas and Electric Company suffer from double-digit unemployment, while the company worries where we'll find enough skilled people to replace the more than 40 percent of our workforce that will be eligible for retirement over the next five years. The mismatch between the skills of job seekers and employer needs is holding up growth across our economy.

Obama Administration launches online Veterans Employment Center
Veterans Today
April 23 marks the anniversary launch of Joining Forces, an integrated employment tool to connect veterans and service members with employers and to help translate military skills into the civilian workforce, introduced by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. The Veterans Employment Center, an integrated, online tool connecting veterans, transitioning service members and their spouses with both public and private-sector employers, is the result of an interagency effort to improve, simplify and consolidate the current array of employment resources for veterans.

Bills call for recruits to be tested for mental health
Military Times
Two congressional bills calling for mental health screening of all military recruits are drawing more attention following the April 2 shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. The bipartisan Medical Evaluation Parity for Service Members bill, HR 4305, was introduced in March before Army Spc. Ivan Lopez wounded 16 soldiers, killed three others and then turned his gun on himself. Afterward, a companion bill, S 2231, was drafted in the Senate, and military and veterans service organizations began weighing in.
