    Pacific Beach Planning Group votes to restrict short-term rentals
    San Diego Community News Group
    It was standing room only as the Pacific Beach Planning Group (PBPG) voted to restrict short-term vacation rentals during a special meeting on March 3 at the Pacific Beach Taylor Library. The PBPG is a voluntary group created to make recommendations to the City Council, Planning Commission, city staff and other governmental agencies on land use matters. Short-term vacation rentals are single-family residential dwellings rented out for periods of less than 30 days.

    Honolulu City Council looks to eliminate illegal vacation rentals

    A bill that looks to eliminate illegal short term vacation rentals from Oahu gained a preliminary approval from the Honolulu City Council Wednesday. Residents in Lanikai have long complained about noise and safety concerns due to the rentals.

    Airbnb and other short-term rentals worsen housing shortage, critics say

    The last time he advertised one of his apartments, longtime Los Feliz landlord Andre LaFlamme got a request he'd never seen before. A man wanted to rent LaFlamme's 245-square-foot bachelor unit with hardwood floors for $875 a month, then list it himself on Airbnb. "Thanks but no thanks," LaFlamme told the prospective tenant. "You've got to be kidding me."

    Websites that help people rent out their houses or spare rooms have become a divisive issue in Petaluma, California, pitting informal innkeepers against residents leery of the influx of tourists in their neighborhoods. For years, proprietors who use sites like Airbnb and VRBO to fill their short-term vacation rental units have operated under the radar. Now, a group of neighbors, complaining about the noise and traffic from such accommodations, wants to end the practice in Petaluma.

    Fort Collins eyes residential vacation rental rules

    Brendan Lore bought a cozy loft in Fort Collins, Colorado last year, right next to the Aggie Theatre. The 800-square-foot corner property overlooks downtown and is an easy walk to Old Town's amenities. Lore uses the loft sporadically. The rest of the time he rents it out through Vacation Rental by Owner, Airbnb and other Internet sites that advertise private homes or apartments as vacation rentals.

    Bend, Oregon planning panel recommends rental density
    The Bulletin
    The Bend, Oregon Planning Commission took on the most divisive aspect of the vacation rental controversy by reaching a consensus on how to limit the clustering of rentals. The commission’s proposal would allow 7.5 percent of houses to be short-term rentals within an area extending 250 feet in any direction from a rental’s residential property line. The City Council must adopt this rule for it to become law.
