USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The nation's fast-growing supply of cheap natural gas is setting off a manufacturing revival that's expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs as companies build or expand plants to take advantage of the low prices. Royal Dutch Shell announced this month that it chose a site near Pittsburgh for a facility to convert ethane from locally produced natural gas into ethylene and polyethylene. They're used to make plastics that go into packaging, pipes and other products. The planned ethane cracker would employ a few hundred workers. More

As fuel prices soar, trucking industry seeks alternatives with natural gas
Forbes (editorial)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Trucking is the backbone of our economy, moving 70 percent of the goods delivered in America. Yet it's a business whose viability is largely driven by the price of oil, which these days consists mostly of foreign oil. America's 3.5 million truck drivers feel real anxiety as they chase the American dream, only to see international tensions drive up the price of diesel fuel at the pump. And as their costs are passed along through increases in the cost of goods, all of us pay the price, as does the entire American economy. More

More US drilling doesn't drop gas price
The Associated Press via Manufacturing.Net    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's the political cure-all for high gas prices: Drill here, drill now. But more U.S. drilling has not changed how deeply the gas pump drills into your wallet, math and history show. A statistical analysis of 36 years of monthly, inflation-adjusted gasoline prices and U.S. domestic oil production by The Associated Press shows no statistical correlation between how much oil comes out of U.S. wells and the price at the pump.
