Google Fires Back at FCC on Wi-Fi Investigation

After being spanked by the Federal Communications Commission, Google is scolding the agency for its handling of a recently concluded investigation into the company's collection of emails, passwords and other personal information transmitted over wireless networks. The rebuke came in a Thursday letter that disputed the FCC's reasons for fining Google Inc. $25,000 earlier this month. More

IntelliNet Spawns 4G Signaling Specialist

There's a new name in signaling on the LTE scene and it's Diametriq. The company, launched on Thursday, was born from the signaling technology assets of IntelliNet Technologies Inc., which was founded in 1992. IntelliNet previously specialized in mobile data offload as well as SS7 protocol stacks and Diameter signaling technology. But in October 2011, the company sold its data offload business, including product assets and employees, to Ruckus Wireless Inc. More



New York, Las Angeles, San Francisco to Be Among Clearwire's First LTE Cities Next Year

Optus Switches on Trial LTE Access in Hunter Region, Australia

Australia's second largest mobile network operator by subscribers, Optus, has announced the launch of trial 4G LTE services in the Hunter region in Australia, with it saying that it has coverage of Greater Newcastle, Maitland, Port Stephens and areas in the Hunter Valley. According to the operator, select customers in the region will be able to access the wireless broadband services, with more than a thousand business and residential subscribers expected to receive 4G service and devices from next week. Although most smartphone patent disputes so far have revolved around mobile operating systems, you can expect a lot more suits to focus on LTE technologies in coming months. A report released Thursday by iRunway, a research firm that specializes in technology patent portfolios and litigation analysis, has found that Samsung and Qualcomm are far and away the top dogs when it comes to holding critical LTE patents and are well positioned to file suits against several big-name companies, including Apple, who have lesser patent portfolios in the LTE space. More
