There is still time to submit an application for the Department of Homeland Security, fiscal year 2010 Fire Prevention and Safety Grants. Applications for these grants must be received by 5 p.m. EST February 4. Fire Prevention and Safety Grants are competitive. Projects can include arson prevention, sprinkler awareness, smoke alarm installation, burn prevention and fire prevention public education. More

Firefighters with the Omaha Fire Department in Nebraska recently responded to two fires. The first broke out at a clothing distribution warehouse. It took firefighters awhile to find exactly where it was because of the size of the building. They eventually traced it to an attic. IACET Authorized Providers are the only organizations approved to offer IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). A fire that broke out at a nursing home in Round Lake, Ill., was quickly extinguished by an automatic sprinkler system. The fire was contained to a single room of a residence at the Hillcrest Nursing Center, but smoke spread throughout other parts of the building, causing the relocation of residents to the building's common dining area.
