A small fire broke out in a dorm room at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J., a college official said, and faulty wiring is believed to have been the cause. An automatic sprinkler system activated at the start of the fire, which Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Bureau Chief Jim French said prevented the flames from spreading. A sprinkler system saved a small trash fire in Fairbanks, Alaska City Hall from becoming much worse. A spark likely landed in a trash bag when workers were using machinery, and smoldering for several hours. The sprinkler was activated and extinguishing the fire and alerting the Fairbanks Fire Department, said Assistant Fire Chief Ernie Misewicz. Fire damaged several semi-trucks and a building in De Pere, Wis. The fire was at the Schreiber Foods plant by the loading dock. The De Pere Fire Department says flames spread from one semi tractor and its trailer to another trailer, reaching into the loading dock doors.
