Jewelry Price Inflation Begins to Cool

After running at near-record levels for most of 2008, jewelry price inflation at both the consumer and the supplier level appears to be waning in the U.S. market. Earlier this year, jewelry price inflation moderated. Then, around the middle of the year, it spiked primarily because of sharply rising precious metals prices, just ahead of the meltdown of the financial markets in September and October. Online Holiday Retail Sales Down for Jewelry, Watches

Online retail sales fell 1 percent to $24.029 billion from the start of the holiday shopping season on November 1 to this past Friday (December 19), online research company comScore found. comScore reported that online jewelry and watch sales fell 17 percent in December making it the third worst category performer ahead of office supplies (down 19 percent) and music, movies and videos (down 24 percent).
