Council meeting at mid-point AMOA Share      The 2012 Council of Affiliated States business program got underway this morning at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Phoenix, with a series of state-by-state updates, a two-part manufacturers' panel and legislative update by Mike Zolandz, a partner in the Washington D.C.-based firm, SNR Denton. The meeting is set to the theme "Getting — and Staying — in the Game," with a new logo being unveiled this year to the 69 delegates representing a record-breaking 27 states.  The Hesch booth at the 2012 AAMA-AMOA Amusement Expo will have "bling" when a 2012 Ford Mustang rolls out as the marquee prize on display as part of the annual fundraising raffle during the March 14-16 show in Las Vegas.
Sales for the 2012 raffle program at Expo are underway. In addition to the Mustang, there are many prizes — mostly industry equipment and services donated by industry exhibitors and other participants listed here below — as part of the daily drawings conducted in the afternoon on each day of the show. The Mustang will be the final prize to be awarded as part of the 2012 Hesch scholarship raffle.

 Since the inception of the respective Foundations of AMOA and the American Amusement Machine Association, the groups have worked together to support each other's fundraising initiatives.
During Expo, the tradition continues, with AAMA member firms contributing prizes and purchasing tickets for the annual Wayne E. Hesch Scholarship raffle program, which is directed by the AMOA Coin-Op Cares Education and Charitable Foundation. In turn, AMOA members have participated in AAMCF's annual Expo fundraiser, a charity golf tournament conducted on the eve of the trade show. As such, all AMOA members are encouraged and invited to participate in the March 13 event, especially those who enjoy the challenge of playing an outstanding, championship-calibre golf course. This year's outing will be conducted on the Wolf Course, which howls at 7,604 yards, the longest course in the state of Nevada. The Wolf is part of the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. The event will commence at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, with buses shuttling players between the course and Las Vegas Hotel.  The 2012 AMOA membership renewal continues on after second notices were mailed to all 2011 members that have not renewed for the current year. As of today, there are over 800 firms that have signed up.

Legal issues top small business concerns for 2012 BLR Share
While an overwhelming 85 percent of small business owners believe that 2012 will be a better year for business than the previous year, a new Rocket Lawyer survey also uncovered challenges that concern these employers. Once more into the land of moral foolishness: An Oklahoma lawmaker just introduced a bill that would impose a tax on games deemed "violent," with the money from said tax going to battle bullying and childhood obesity. Bullying and childhood obesity are bad, I think we can all agree, so the bill, dubbed HB 2696, must have Oklahomans' best interests in mind, right? Except for the part where it baselessly assumes "violent" video games are in fact bad for you, and the other part where it doesn't includes books, music, movies or any other form of entertainment in the lineup.
