The Colombia Encyclopedia defines privateering as, "A former usage of war permitting privately owned and operated war vessels (privateers) under commission of a belligerent government to capture enemy shipping. Licensed privateering dates back to the 13th century." The privateers have turned their guns on the U.S. Postal Service, charging it with inefficiency while trying to hamper it legislatively. There is no evidence that the U.S. Postal Service is owed a refund on tens of billions of dollars in pension overpayments because of actuarial or accounting errors, the Government Accountability Office concludes in a report released. Such a decision is ultimately a "policy choice," GAO said, adding that the struggling mail carrier in any case needs to take other steps to confront its long-term financial woes. More

The National Association of Letter Carriers announced the retention of investment bank Lazard Group, LLC and former assistant to President Barack Obama for manufacturing policy, Ron Bloom, as financial advisors in connection with issues relating to the United States Postal Service. Fredric V. The union representing America's urban and suburban mail carriers has hired a former advisor to President Barack Obama to boost its input in the reform of the U.S. Postal Service. The National Association of Letter Carriers revealed that it has retained the services of Ron Bloom, Obama's former top advisor on manufacturing. Bloom left the White House in August, after helping to engineer a U.S. automotive industry bailout in 2009 and the subsequent restructuring of bankrupt car makers Chrysler and GM. At the time, he had faced claims he was giving the auto industry unions "favourable treatment." More |
