proposed rule
APMA
Share

Yesterday, APMA submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in response to HHS' proposed rule regarding the establishment of exchanges and
qualified health plans. APMA commented on a number of provisions in the proposed rule. Specifically, APMA encouraged HHS to include podiatric physicians in exchange provider networks, to require exchanges to comply with the federal nondiscrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act and state provider non-discrimination laws, to clarify and clearly define the term "essential health benefits" and more. You may read a copy of the comment letter here. For
more information on APMA efforts to ensure podiatric physicians are included in the implementation of federal health*-care reform law, visit www.apma.org/healthcarereform.

Prepared for flu season?
APMA

Flu season is around the corner. Are you and your patients ready? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued vaccination safety information for 2011 – 2012. DPMs should encourage their patients and staff to get vaccinated. The influenza season generally occurs from October to May, so influenza vaccination during the winter months can still provide protective benefit for
patients who have not yet received the vaccine. CDC offers plenty of free resources, including brochures, posters and fact sheets, to help educate consumers about influenza and influenza vaccines.

The Salt Lake Tribune

Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff recently joined his counterparts in 25 other states in petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court for a swift review of the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's signature health overhaul.
