Important ACA Fix Gaining Steam
American Supply Association
Next week, as Congress returns from its summer recess, legislators are looking for modest improvements to the health care law, now that the Supreme Court has affirmed its standing as law. Buried deep in the Affordable Care Act is a requirement that redefines the definition of a small group employer from just 50 employees to 100. The change, expected to take effect in January 2016 would mandate employers with between 51 and 99 employees to change health care plans by requiring them to purchase insurance with additional requirements in 2016, ultimately leading to higher premiums. ASA helped launch the 50-100 Coalition and has been meeting with legislators all summer to educate them on the importance of this timely change. State of the PVF Industry
Supply House Times
The industrial PVF industry is in the midst of a rough patch. And the usual culprit is driving the bus. "The price of oil drives everything else," says Michael Taylor, president of Long Beach, California-based Columbia Specialty Co. "The oil industry has become really good at boom and bust. When the bust comes, it triggers action quickly. In a snap of a finger thousands of people get laid off and capital projects get cut. When the price of oil goes down to a certain point, everything gets shut off and things get slashed and the PVF industry gets caught in a big part of that." Taylor was one of four industrial PVF executives who took part in a recent Supply House Times interview in Oak Brook, Illinois, following a meeting of the American Supply Association's Industrial Piping Division Executive Council. Taylor was joined by fellow council members Brian Tuohey (Collins Pipe & Supply), Kip Miller (Eastern Industrial Supplies) and Bill Zielinski (Chicago Tube & Iron).

National Journal
Legislation overturning the Affordable Care Act's expansion of the small-group insurance market is likely to get a look this fall, according to multiple sources on and off Capitol Hill, and it may be the Obamacare "fix" with the best chance of becoming law. Importance of Training and Development in an Organization
In an ever changing and fast paced corporate world, training and development is an indispensable function. Training and development is one of the lowest things on the priority list of most companies. When it's organized, it is often at the persistence of the human resources department. There is, however, enormous value in organizing proper training and development sessions for employees.

Does Your Warehouse Cut Costs or Add Value?
By Ken Ackerman
As a warehouse manager, is it your job to cut costs or to add value? You might answer that you do both, but which of the two do you do the best? Furthermore, which of the two is more important to your boss, to the client or to the consignees who are your client's customers? If you were to ask chief executives in manufacturing, retailing or wholesale distribution which of the two tasks is most important, I suspect you would get a variety of answers.

How Extensive is Employer's Obligation to Provide Workplace Safety?
The New York Times
It is a nightmare for any employer: what to do with a volatile, constantly aggrieved worker who has had angry, even frightening confrontations with fellow workers - yet has committed no crime. Because he had no convictions and had not been adjudicated mentally ill, former reporter Vester Lee Flanagan II was able to legally purchase from a licensed dealer the Glock 19 handgun used in the killings of two former co-workers at a Virginia TV station.
