List of Improving Housing Markets Expands to 125 in November

The number of U.S. housing markets showing consistent improvement in three key measures of strength expanded by 22 in November to a total of 125, according to the National Association of Home Builders/First American Improving Markets Index. This marks a third consecutive monthly gain for the index, which now includes representatives from across 38 states as well as the District of Columbia. More

Service Sector Growth Slips in October, Hiring Picks Up

The pace of growth in the U.S. services sector slowed modestly in October, though a measure of employment improved to its highest in seven months, underscoring expectations the economic recovery will remain modest. The Institute for Supply Management said its services index eased to 54.2 last month from 55.1 in September, shy of economists' forecasts for 54.5, according to a Reuters survey. More

Economy: Record Overseas Sales Boost US Growth

Exports from the U.S. climbed to a record in September, contributing to an unexpected decline in the trade deficit that gave the world's largest economy a boost at the end of the third quarter. The gap shrank 5.1 percent to $41.5 billion, the smallest since December 2010 and lower than any estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists, Commerce Department figures showed in Washington. The gain in sales to overseas buyers was broad-based, with improvement in everything from soybeans to fuel and civilian aircraft. More
