Luxury Living Makes Its Return — with a Twist

Inconspicuous consumption dominated affluent consumers' buying habits during the recent recession. McMansions, flashy cars and lavish vacation homes were out. Luxury buyers contented themselves with more modest purchases. As the economic recovery has taken hold, however, wealthy consumers have expressed their confidence by returning to big-ticket spending. Sales of large and expensive homes have increased markedly throughout the country in recent months, driven by greater economic stability, attractive pricing and plentiful inventories.

Architecture Firm Billings Rebound in the New Year

Following two months of declines at the end of 2013, architecture firm billings rebounded slightly in January, according to the AIA's Architecture Billings Index. The score of 50.4 for the month (any score above 50 indicates billings growth) is representative of very modest growth, but with spring's warmer weather right around the corner, industry watchers hope that billings begin to pick up steam again.

IHG Green Engage Recognized by U.S. Green Building Council

InterContinental Hotels Group's IHG Green Engage program, the online sustainability program used by IHG-branded hotels worldwide, is now recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council under its LEED Volume program and Green Key Global as providing streamlined pathways to certification. 

IHG is the first hotel company to provide an approach to precertification for new-build hotels under the LEED 2009 for New Construction rating system.

Collaborative Concept Leads to Cotel, a Crowdsourced Business Hotel
