Outdoor living gets back to basics
Custom Home Online    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As the economy begins to stabilize, homeowners are still spending on outdoor living and landscape architecture, but they're forgoing many of the bells and whistles that became fashionable during the housing boom and instead are refocusing on the basics, according to a recent survey by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). While classic outdoor living elements such as dining and seating areas, grills, lighting, and fire pits or fireplaces remain very popular, interest in elements such as outdoor sinks, refrigerators, and showers, as well as high-tech systems such as outdoor televisions and stereo systems has declined overall. Powder rooms with personality
Telegraph    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Interior designers called in to dress up houses find that more of a client's personality is poured into the powder room than any other part of a home. Frequently, it serves as a shrine to the owner. Resorts Going Green
The Herman Group    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Ecotourism is "in." People want to believe their precious vacations are not creating a giant carbon footprint to harm the environment, but rather are at least carbon neutral. And the hoteliers are responding. Going green is not just a good idea for impressing guests and supporting the environment, but energy-saving practices also often benefit the bottom line. For now, some resorts will use it as their "unique selling propositions." More
