Interior Design Billings Index remains positive in February

The ASID Interior Design Billings Index stayed in positive territory in February after a noticeable uptick in January. Reported billings were the same as in January, 57.4. The Inquiries Index declined only slightly — 63.2 vs. 65.9 in January — but was up more than 10 points over the fourth quarter of 2011. The Interior Design Index showed greater improvement than the AIA Billings Index, which also registered positive, at 51, for the fourth month in a row. More

The average price tag for kitchen remodels ticked up slightly in 2011, according to the latest "Professional Remodeler" research. The top reason given (cited by 44 percent) for why homeowners are deciding to remodel their kitchens is to update its appearance. Twenty-nine percent said the top driver was to improve the functionality of the kitchen, and 12 percent said a desire to replace/upgrade appliances was the top reason. More

A national campaign called Healthier Hospitals Initiative kicked off in April when 10 of the largest U.S. health systems, comprising more than 500 hospitals with more than $20 billion in purchasing power, worked with Health Care Without Harm, The Center for Health Design and Practice Greenhealth to create a guide for hospitals to reduce energy and waste, choose safer, less toxic products and purchase and serve healthier foods.
