Is your kitchen making you fat?
Daily Mail    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nutritionists warn the modern kitchen actually is making us fatter. Among the culprits are supersize refrigerators, walk-in pantries, kitchen islands and open display shelves. Each puts food — and more food — within sight and easy reach, tempting us to eat more than we should. Even lighting and the color on the walls can trigger behaviors that lead to overeating. More

Kitchen & Bath Design News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As designers, when describing an exquisite bathroom, we may not always include the word safety. Likewise, when we see references to bath safety, our expectations may not include positive aesthetics. But of course these must go hand in hand. More

Dexigner    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Students at the University of Queensland have developed a virtual interactive interior design technology that allows users to project life-sized, two-dimensional outlines of furniture onto a living room floor plan. When that's done, you can view the furniture in 3-D using an iPad application. Moving it simply requires a wave of your hand. More

Minimizing hard surfaces in a medical office
Medical Office Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Although hard surfaces can look modern and edgy (and often are easier to keep clean), they're not always welcome in the medical office setting. Stone, tile and hardwood floors, along with metal-frame chairs and glass tables, certainly look nice, but they have drawbacks for practices, including a lack of comfort and privacy, risk of injury, increased noise and an overall "cold" feeling. Why offices designed for bringing people together fail
BNET    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Just like scientists have discovered chocolate and red wine are good for you, so too have the folks in white lab coats learned casual interactions among employees promote trust, cooperation and, yes, even innovation. Workplace redesigns based on these concepts resulted in open floor plans, lower cubicle walls and physical spaces that resembled town commons, Parisian cafes and playgrounds. Most failed to produce the kinds of interactions companies were seeking. A new report explains why. More

New design concept for business jets
Haute Living    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Renowned aircraft design brand Design Q recently released their latest concept for the Avro Business Jet, the ABJ Eleganté. The ABJ Eleganté is composed of a chic, fluid layout that upholds a natural traffic flow through the craft and makes optimal use of the available space. The furniture is of rich, high-quality wood veneer, which is designed to match the interior's ambient light, while fabric is finished with fluid shapes and results in that posh, slightly futuristic effect. Despite the state-of-the-art interior, the concept actually is quite affordable and allows jetsetting clients an aesthetically pleasing craft that still boasts ample interior space. Getting a lived-in look that will look the way a buyer wants to live
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Despite the real estate maxim that interiors should be as neutral as possible so customers can envision their possessions in them, many model apartments are using distinctive designs to suggest a particular way of life. Guarding the deposit

Scenario planning: A tactical approach to planning for tomorrow and beyond
Contract    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Before the economy spiraled downward in 2008, most companies exclusively focused on a strategic planning process to determine goals. But strategic, goal-focused planning is a linear thought process that can lead to a dead end. The financial crisis and ensuing Great Recession caused forward-looking decision-makers to transition from strategic planning to scenario planning, which provides a more non-linear, tactical approach to doing business.
