ASID Secures Victory for Interior Designers in Florida
ASID
On August 18, the Florida Building Commission (FBC) approved the ASID petition to reaffirm Florida law and confirm that registered interior designers in Florida may sign and seal interior design documents for submission to local building officials. Many registered interior designers in Florida have experienced difficulty with local building officials who rejected their signed and sealed interior design documents. Such rejections increased costs for small businesses and consumers of interior design services. The FBC’s decision means that any registered interior designer in Florida may reference this ruling should any local building official question their ability to sign and seal documents. Learn more.

As the “One Voice” of the interior design industry, ASID has the resources and commitment to respond and serve not just our members, but all interior designers across the country. If you experience a similar issue or have questions, please contact the ASID Government & Public Affairs Department or 202-546-3480.

What Kind of Design Triggers Healing – in Designers?
Metropolis
Overwhelming evidence shows that biophilic environments, both natural and artificial, exert a healing effect on the human body. This healing process also acts by association on the designer’s own body when he or she is creating biophilic design. The opposite effect is also predictable: designing and building biophobic structures is pathological.

Solar-Powered Indoor Clouds Regulate Home Temperature
Ecobuilding Pulse
More homes are including large glass paneled walls and skylights in their design to allow an abundance of natural light. However, all that light can also create a lot of heat and cause homeowners to jack up their air conditioning—and their energy bills. Dutch designers may have found a way to mitigate that effect with solar powered "clouds." The white balloons slowly inflate as the sun comes out to create little spaces of shade below.
