August ASID Interior Design Billings Decelerate, But Outlook Remains Positive
ASID
Although August's billings and inquiries index decelerated slightly from July, both remain in positive territory. The deceleration is likely a lag caused by the overall poor economy occurring in late 2013 and early 2014. The mix of billings by region and sector, and overall outlook for the design industry remain positive, which is comparable to the pattern found in the Consumer Confidence Expectations Index and the Dodge Momentum Index.

Be Your Client's Best Client
Design Management Company
Apple founder Steve Jobs is often quoted for his take on innovation: "How does somebody know what they want if they haven't even seen it yet?" Designers excel at seeing the potential in spaces that others don't and providing solutions clients didn't even know they wanted. Jobs used himself as market research for Apple products; he was his own "best client." You have to respect your client's wishes, but don't stop there. HousingZone

The high-performance, "zero-energy" home for a family of four would have an annual utility bill of about $400. The family in a typical home would pay $1,600 a year.

Anecdotal evidence shows that window views to natural elements buffer the negative impact of job stress on intention to quit; the more natural elements, the less the negative impact of job stress on turnover intentions. A [physiological study] has indicated that people are less nervous or anxious when looking at the window view to nature compared with the window view to the city or no window view."
