K+BB Collective    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Pantone's 2012 Color of the Year — "Tangerine Tango" — has been making the rounds of news outlets and trade publications in recent weeks. But Pantone is not the only company with a color forecast for next year. What hues will dominate? Benjamin Moore, in releasing its forecast for the upcoming year, offers a palette that seems reflective of the uncertainty still lingering as the country continues to recover from an economic recession. The tranquil tones also perhaps the desire for comfort, home and things we hold familiar in these changing times. More

A coffee faucet — for the minimalist in you
Wired    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The TopBrewer is the ultimate coffee machine for the minimal denialist. Instead of having your eyes dirtied by a scattering of coffee related gadgets across the countertop, the sole visible part of the machine is a tap that arcs elegantly up from the depths of your kitchen and delivers both coffee and milk. Even better, it can be remote controlled by your iPhone or iPad. More

Champions of real estate
Interior Design    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Once upon a time, only a scant handful of real estate developers, investors and other professionals fully grasped the value that good design concepts, executed well, can layer onto a project. A few strange circumstances have conspired to alter this tableau, and the changes have meant a greater proportion of real estate folks now pursue design as an integral element. More

Art in health care
Healthcare Design    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As beautifully designed health care facilities are built or expanded, art generally is lumped in with furniture, fixtures and equipment at the end of the building cycle. Consequently, art frequently receives little forethought and is reduced to a package of ubiquitous budget prints. Yet art is arguably the first thing people react to when they approach or enter a facility. When the process for selecting and integrating art with health care design fully considers context, art adds value well beyond a visually aesthetic appeal. More

One-of-a-kind Wright house goes up for auction
Wisconsin State Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The request was simple, the result remarkable. But now, after 60 years, it is time for new stewards to assume care of the only house Frank Lloyd Wright ever created for universal access. Owner Kenneth Laurent, who reached out to Wright for help after returning from World War II in a wheelchair, is retiring to an assisted living facility with his wife, Phyllis. Their Illinois home is headed for the auction. More

Castles in the air
Barron's    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The interior designers of the world's most luxurious jets literally are pushing the boundaries. While most owners of private airliners remain secretive about the opulence found inside these custom aircraft, Airbus openly refers to the A380 ordered by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal as a "flying palace." The space that designers have to work with in these big birds — from 2,000 to 6,000 square feet — has fired the imaginations of the interiors specialists at two dozen or so independent completion centers and aircraft interior design houses.
