Interior Design Project Inquiries Reach Three-Year High
The American Society of Interior Designers Third Quarter 2014 Interior Design Billings Index reports inquiries for interior design projects are at their highest in three years. In September, the ASID Interior Design Billings Index registered 60.5, while inquiries rose to 69.5. As a leading economic indicator of residential and nonresidential improvement spending, the IDBI brings additional perspective to the already established construction indices. Three different variables had a strong effect on billings in Q3: firm size, region, and market sector.

A team of researchers from Florida A&M University has determined that when students study in code-compliant schools they perform better on standardized tests. Data was collected from students attending class in buildings compliant with the 2000 Uniform Building Code or not compliant. The research "revealed an increase in the percentage of students passing the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test mathematics and reading subtests in new 2000 UBC schools, which illuminates the impact of school facility on student achievement."

More Than 65 Percent of Workers Are Not Satisfied with Their Office Chairs

A recent survey conducted by Online Reality discovered that 65 percent of workers in the United Kingdom are not satisfied with their office chairs. Despite this data, the overwhelming majority of respondents either described office chairs as being "very important" or "important" to improving productivity in the workplace, with around 53 percent and approximately 38 percent respectively.
