Scientists believe that a treatment to prevent or delay the symptoms of Huntington's disease could now be much closer, following a major breakthrough. There is currently no cure for Huntington’s disease, but the findings, published in the journal Cell, suggest that it could be possible to delay its effects or even prevent it altogether, allowing people with the Huntington's gene to live healthy lives for longer.

This is a huge problem for those with HIV, the virus that eventually leads to AIDS. Now, researchers have found a cancer drug that can attack dormant HIV reservoirs.

A vaccine containing virus-like nanoparticles, or microscopic, genetically engineered particles, is an effective treatment for respiratory syncytial virus, according to researchers. Their findings, published in the International Journal of Nanomedicine, suggest this vaccine induces long-term protection against RSV and could be a novel treatment option for this disease. There is no licensed RSV vaccine.

A targeted therapy already used to treat advanced skin cancer is also effective against the most common subtype of the brain tumor medulloblastoma in adults and should be considered for treatment of newly diagnosed patients, according to research led by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The drug, called vismodegib, is designed to block a key protein in the sonic hedgehog signaling pathway.
