    7 Companies Receive Funding From Wichita State Contest
    The Wichita Eagle
    The word innovation has been a common theme at Wichita State University for months, with the university's Innovation Campus in development and, now, with the Innovation Accelerator Shock Tank competition. The contest, which began in October with 19 companies, ended with seven companies receiving between $10,000 and $20,000. Funding for all the companies, which was provided by the Kansas Department of Commerce, totaled $109,600.

    Samsung Electronics Inks Licensing Agreement with Michigan Spinoff

    A University of Michigan-developed energy storage and controls company announced that it has signed a technology licensing agreement with Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics. Spider9, based in Northville, Michigan, signed the technology licensing agreement, which will allow Samsung proprietary use of its Energy Operating System (OSE). The company's patented OSE technology was developed to improve the reliability, useful life and commercial value of battery systems used for stationary energy storage applications.

    AUTM 2015 Eastern Region Meeting: Call for Topics

    The AUTM Eastern Region Planning Committee invites you to suggest topics for the AUTM 2015 Eastern Region Meeting, which will take place Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

    Growing Grass Where the Sun Doesn't Shine

    Sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side. Just ask Bill Carraway, vice president of marketing at The Turfgrass Group, which markets and licenses TifGrand, a shade- and wear-tolerant cultivar developed by researchers at the University of Georgia.

    "Having a Bermudagrass that can tolerate shade is something those of us in the turf business have wanted our whole lives," he said. "A Bermudagrass that can tolerate shade is a phenomenon."
