Sonavex LLC Wins Top Prize in AUTM Venture Forum

Sonavex LLC won $10,000 in the AUTM business plan competition during the 2015 AUTM Venture Forum held at the 2015 AUTM Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

The Baltimore-based startup is developing a line of products called EchoSure — implantable and bioabsorbable markers (EchoMark) and ultrasound software packages (EchoFind) designed to detect the formation of blood clots after at-risk procedures. The medical device company was formed as a Johns Hopkins University spinout in 2013. Read more.

OTT30: Emory Tech Transfer Office Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation

Throughout 2015 Emory University and its Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) are celebrating 30 years of guiding innovative discoveries from the laboratory with the ultimate goal of creating commercial products. Emory's OTT, which had humble beginnings 30 years ago as part of the Office of Sponsored Programs, now includes a 17-member staff that not only guides inventors through the complex process of technology transfer but also works to increase the value of inventions and reduce the risk they may falter along the path to development.

Takitani Foundation Seeds Innovation Fellowships at PACE

The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation has committed $25,000 to the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Shidler College of Business. The gift will be matched by the UH Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation to seed the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation Innovation Fellowship Program.

    Frustrated with the lack of a realistic material for his students to practice suturing techniques, Dean Hendrickson, DVM, a professor of surgery at Colorado State University, took matters into his own hands.

    He and a colleague developed a multilayer silicone suture pad that mimics live tissue and founded SurgiReal to sell the product to medical training programs and their students.
