Incentives Could Be Used to Bring Talent to Texas Universities

The state's commissioner of higher education likes the idea of using a portion of the state's incentive fund to attract new top-flight talent to Texas' universities. A substitute for Rep. Angie Chen Button's House Bill 26 will be presented in committee on Thursday. Last week, Button expressed support for rolling a number of bills into House Bill 26, including more details on how the state might deal with the commercialization of university research.

AUTM Licensing Activity Survey Now Open
AUTM
Licensing and startup activity are strong and continue to play an important role in the economy. The AUTM Licensing Activity Survey: FY2013 reported 818 startup companies were formed, a 16 percent increase over the prior year and 719 new commercial products were created by companies licensing university technology, a 22 percent increase over the previous year. The full FY2013 report is now available — offering insights and trends in technology transfer staffing levels, research expenditures, patenting and licensing activities, startup activity and much more.

The AUTM Licensing Activity Survey: FY2014 is now open for data collection. Deadline to submit data is Monday, April 20. Contact SurveyAdmin@autmsurvey.org if you have not received your invitation to participate.
