Performance-Enhancing Sensor Ready for Commercialization
University of Strathclyde via ScienceDaily
A wearable device being developed by the University of Strathclyde will provide real-time data analysis of fluid loss during exercise to enhance the performance of fitness enthusiasts and elite athletes. The innovative transdermal sensor is a small device that attaches to the body to analyze electrolytes in sweat, with bluetooth technology used to send the data back to a smartphone — allowing the user to rehydrate properly and maintain optimum performance.

LSU Shows Off Faculty's Patented Works at 1st Innovation and
Technology Event

Posters and prototypes of new innovations developed by LSU faculty members lined the walls of the packed ballroom in the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU's first-ever Innovation & Technology Commercialization Inventorship Showcase. The event honored the 16 patents received and 57 works published by LSU faculty members in fiscal year 2014, and it also represented the university's increasing efforts to move research into the marketplace amidst what LSU President F. King Alexander described as a research and development crisis in the U.S.

Indiana University
A San Diego-based drug maker plans to adapt antibiotic derivatives identified through Indiana University-led research toward improved treatment of bacterial infections and genetic disorders such as cystic fibrosis. Under an agreement with the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp., La Jolla Pharmaceutical Co. obtained an exclusive option to acquire intellectual property rights to "next-generation" offshoots of gentamicin.

UConn Launches Program to Help Students, Faculty Transform Ideas for Technology Into Commercialized Products
New Haven Register
The University of Connecticut is launching a program to help students and faculty transform ideas for technology into commercialized products. The school kicked of its Accelerate UConn program with a ceremony Tuesday in Storrs. The program, which builds upon UConn's existing technology transfer, incubation and commercialization infrastructure, is being funded by a three-year, $300,000 grant by the National Science Foundation.
