Rutgers Receives $2 Million Biomed Grant

Rutgers is one of seven institutions in the country selected by the National Institutes of Health to receive this year's BEST Award — a $2 million grant designed to expose many of the university's most promising biomedical sciences graduate trainees to career opportunities that go beyond the academic path that they have traditionally taken.

Outside Board to Guide UCLA on Research Deals

The University of California campus plans to establish a nonprofit board that is independent from the university, to help find funding and commercial applications for its research. The board may be replicated at other University of California campuses. Such a model could lay the groundwork for a vast system of academic research commercialization, managed largely by people outside of academia.

Utah State Breaks Ground for Electric Vehicle Research Facility
Cache Valley Daily
Utah State University broke ground at the Innovation Campus for a new electric vehicle and roadway facility that will look into the possibility of charging electric vehicles while on the go. Once complete, USU researchers are hoping to be able to have a car continuously driving and charging itself on the quarter-mile track without stopping to refuel. They believe it will be the only facility of its kind in the nation with these capabilities.

AUTM FY2014 Salary Survey

Data collection is underway for the AUTM FY2014 Salary Survey. Like previous editions, this sixth biennial compensation survey will present robust data gathered from respondents (directors or their designees) at non-profit technology transfer offices.

Completing the survey is not difficult or time consuming, yet the benefits to AUTM members are substantial.

To ensure the confidentiality of the survey data, those of you who requested participation in the survey received an email directly from AUTM's vendor, Peerfocus, with the subject line "2014 AUTM Salary Survey Has Launched" from John Ritter under this email.

If you did not receive the original email with log-in instructions AND you are responsible for salary information of your colleagues in your technology transfer office, please email here, and cc Chrys Gwellem and David Morgan to request your personalized link and log-in information to the survey.

$710,000 Award for Research Goes to SUNY

The State University of New York announced that it has received $710,000 for faculty and student research. According to a statement released by SUNY, the goal of this funding is to "increase research collaborations and spur commercialization activities between SUNY and industry partners in core research areas."

AUTM Launches BWP 500 Contest
AUTM
AUTM is introducing the BWP 500 contest in September. The new initiative, which is available exclusively to AUTM members, is designed to help the association reach its goal of 500 technologies in the Better World Project database by the 2015 Annual Meeting.

AUTM members who enter technologies into the database during this monthly contest will be eligible to win a $100 gift certificate. In addition, their technologies will be considered for Featured Stories — professionally written articles that are hosted on the BWP website and promoted via AUTM's various media outlets.
