Survey: Innovative University of Virginia Ventures Create Economic Growth
University of Virginia
Business ventures with research-and-development ties to the University of Virginia have created more than 850 jobs and pumped millions of dollars into the regional and state economies, according to a new report by U. Va. Innovation. The report is based on U. Va. Innovation's inaugural venture survey, distributed to 53 active companies founded on the university’s research discoveries.

Researchers Receive Grants Aimed at Technology Commercialization
Penn State University
Four research projects with high potential for technology commercialization have received grants through a Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences program designed to spur innovation. The college's Research Applications for Innovation Grants provide financial support that enables researchers in the college to realize the commercial potential of ongoing research projects.

Kansas Boosts Tech Transfer
Global University Venturing
The University of Kansas has renamed its tech transfer unit to University of Kansas Innovation and Collaboration (KUIC) following recent success in commercialization and licensing. Over the past two years, KUIC has grown its licensing revenue from $1 million to $11 million, doubled the number of patents issued from 2012 to 2013 and received over $9 million in corporate-backed research funding.

AUTM Announces Medical Device Impact Study RFP
AUTM
AUTM, through the generous support of the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation, is seeking proposals from individuals that can determine — through research — the impact of academic institutions and academic medical centers on the development of medical devices used in health care. The selected party will conduct the research and produce a report detailing the impact academia has had on the development of medical devices on the market, complete with corresponding research strategy, methodology and support data.

The study award amount will depend on budgetary needs for the winning proposal but will fall within the range of $40,000-$60,000 for the entire term of the study. Read the RFP here for full details. The deadline for proposals is Nov. 11.
