Lamar University Student Releases App That Uses Biometrics for
Document Security

Matt Bukovicky, a senior business marketing major at Lamar University, and Charles Teel, a Lamar alumnus, are launching a new venture — an application for iOS devices. Lockbox is a document and file storage app that uses biometric data to provide a higher level of security. It is designed to work with Touch ID, the fingerprint recognition feature designed and released by Apple Inc., and currently available on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Partnership Will Tackle Innovative Methods of Converting Food Wastes
University of Hawaii at Manoa
The nonprofit group Energy Excelerator has announced its selection of 17 grantee companies for 2015, its largest cohort to date. Among its grantees is the partnership between the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Bioenergy and Environment Research Group and the bioconversion company, ProtaCulture LLC, which was selected from a pool of over 250 applicants.

Rutgers Student Creates Agent to Clear Biological Tissues
The Daily Targum
A company that students at Rutgers started has now been sold to more than 100 universities, and the founders are currently meeting with pharmaceutical companies to advance their product. Visikol is a new brand of clearing agent that has been gaining attention for its ability to clear all kinds of biological tissues from plants to animals, said Tom Villani, the product's creator and a Ph.D. student in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Rutgers.

Sinkholes and ruptured water mains are occurring with alarming frequency throughout the country, creating a sense of urgency for upgrades to the nation’s aging drinking and wastewater infrastructure. Using an electromagnetic scanning technology developed at Louisiana Tech University, Florida-based CUES Inc. is helping civil engineers identify infrastructure most in need of repair to prevent catastrophic failures in underground systems.
