Lean Startup Model Might Save Your Life

Blank says combining their expertise with the lean method will spur biomedical innovation and perhaps save lives. Around and Around We Go: The Drug Development Debate

Every once and a while we get a clear example of the gulf between those battling over important public policy issues and can understand why the public and policy makers are confused by resulting charges and counter charges. Last week was a good illustration. The Washington Post reviewed a study by the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development in its story titled "Does it really cost $2.6 billion to develop a new drug?" As the title implies, the claims of huge costs and risks undertaken by drug developers are summarily dismissed by their critics. The story fairly presents both sides of a debate with vastly different worldviews.

Ideas and methods of designing universities implemented at Arizona State University were prominently featured at a symposium titled "The Future of the University and the University of the Future: A Global Perspective," held at the Technical University of Ambato, Ecuador. Michigan Startup Gets Approval for Lung Density Analysis for COPD
University of Michigan Health System
A technology that started in a University of Michigan Medical School lab may soon help lung disease patients around the world breathe a little easier, by helping their doctors make a clearer diagnosis and more individualized treatment plan. Imbio, a startup launched from the University of Michigan in 2007, has just received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell its software platform based on U-M research. Called Lung Density Analysis, or LDA, it analyzes images of patients' lungs with detailed precision.

AUTM Announces BWP Contest Winner for November
AUTM
Susan Patow, marketing associate at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, won a $100 gift certificate during the Association of University Technology Managers' BWP 500 contest for November. The new initiative, which is available exclusively to AUTM members, is designed to help the association reach its goal of 500 technologies in the Better World Project database by the 2015 Annual Meeting.

AUTM members who enter technologies into the database during this monthly contest will be eligible to win a $100 gift certificate. In addition, their technologies will be considered for Featured Stories — professionally written articles that are hosted on the BWP website and promoted via AUTM’s various media outlets.
