PROJECTS
Church of Scientology - ASHO + LA-ORG Building
About:
The stucco surfaces were originally coated with Keim. Over time, decorative cement-coated foam elements finished in acrylic paint were added to the facade. The stucco had intermittent crack repairs that contrasted surrounding surface textures, and shadow outlines remained from relocated signage and lighting. Keim Royalan Grob and Royalan silicate coating brought an overall cohesive appearance to the various textures and sheens. The building now presents the architecture of strength and beauty.

Challenges:
The decorative panels and fluted columns are painted with an acrylic polymer paint that shows variegation in the color from fading and weathering. Holes will remain after removing row of bronze lights. Surfaces behind the gold signage letters are rough. Textural shadows remain on the surface where earlier lettering was installed at the first story level.

Solutions:
Smooth out rough-textured surfaces and fill divots with Keim Universalputz Standard Render, treat new render surfaces with Keim Lime Remover, and apply a primer coat of Keim Royalan Grob diluted 10% with Royalan Silicate Dilution, followed with a top coat of Keim Royalan.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Arlington House - Mansion Exterior
About:
Extensive mock-ups and studies were done by KEIM, and a detailed presentation was provided to the National Park Service. After approvals, the building was completely stripped and cleaned. Repairs as necessary were done. KEIM Universal Render was applied as a skimmed layer and for repairs, and KEIM Royalan was the coating of choice for the faux treatments for facades as well as the large exterior columns.

Challenges:
Certain elevations had substantial settlement-type cracking and moisture problems. The rear of the building required special attention due to settlement cracking and moisture issues. Historic research ascertained the faux treatment history and techniques, as well as the historic colors.

Solutions:
Stucco was repaired with Universalputz Render and a renewal layer of Universalputz Render was installed, with Ashlar jointing struck in the public facades (three elevations -- the backside of the building is left plain.) Stripping and faux painting work performed by EverGreene Studios.
